Taxonomy: s.f. Oxyuroidea
Animal: Enterobius vermicularis 12.jpg
Sites: Gut
Comment:
Enterobius vermicularis adult in a H&E stained cross section. Pinworm infection is diagnosed usually by identification of the characteristic eggs from the perianal skin. Occasionally the adult female worm may migrate beyond the cecum to the appendix, or reproductive organs and diagnosis may be via biopsy. Occurrence of characteristic eggs in the section is useful. The adult worms have conspicuous lateral alae, platymyarian musculature and large lateral chords but often are degenerate and ahrd to recognise. .
